Living Your Best Life 🥳 October 2024

Uncategorized Feb 05, 2025

As tensions rise, we need to take a relax break.

Inhale for five, exhale for five, inhale for five, exhale for five.

October brings the first holidays of the season, the first of which is centered around candy, sweets and total overindulgence. It is just four weeks we will watch a stressed-out nation make a big political decision. We must navigate gift buying and secret Santa’s and we have extra house guest destroying our daily routines.

This time of year, the stress is really kicking into high gear. We have two options: give in or fight.

I choose to fight the stress with serenity. That’s right; as stress rises, I choose to calm my mind, stick to my routines, and have as much fun as possible. Here are some easy ways to beat the stress this holiday season.

Calm the Mind

Our mind can dwell on the past and harbor fears of the future. So, the best thing we can do it live in the present. Let go of the past and future. Being present can be challenging because our minds never stop. So, to work on this we can start meditating. This doesn’t have to be long, even five minutes or even five breaths can bring us back to the present moment.

When you first start meditating it may be helpful to follow along with a guided meditation in an app (there are so many). Start short, so you can be successful and stay consistent. Remember meditation isn’t about silencing your mind, it is about becoming aware of the thoughts, THEN you can work on slowing them down and eventually turning them off.

Stick to a Routine

Routine is KING! I’m totally serious. Nothing makes my brain happier than sticking to my routine. Same morning drink, same bathroom 💩 time, same workout time and so on. We hear kids thrive on routine but so do the parents and grandparents. When our brain knows what is coming that stress of the unknown is limited to things we cannot control. So we free up some space to let the stress go by sticking to our routines.

Have a Ton of Fun

Okay, life it too short to be so serious. Things are important, sure, and serious matters. But overall life is supposed to be fun! You are meant to enjoy it. So, take this season to get out there, and play. Yes, adults can play! This may look like a wine tasting trip, a day trip to Apple Hill, dance party with kids/grandkids, paint balling, anything! Laugh and allow yourself to let go of the daily stressors. There is plenty of time to stress, so make sure you make time for fun!

This holiday season, focus on family, fun and routine. Make time quiet reflection, and deep breaths. Allow yourself to step away when needed, to dance when asked and to laugh as much as possible. When we put the right energy into the world, it always comes back; things always workout as they are supposed to. Sometimes they workout to teach us a lesson; but, when we see that, take the opportunity to grow, nothing seems impossible.

Happy October, the month to start the Holidays!
