It can start today, at any age.
Our family has been through a tough time lately, losing one of our patriarchs, Robert’s dad, Richard. This loss has brought reflection and insight to a question plaguing many of us.
Is it too late to start training?
The simple answer, when looking at Richard, is NO. Richard suffered from kidney disease, diabetes, and many of the common lifestyle ailments (high blood pressure, overweight, etc.). YET, once in here training, he became stronger, survived hip fracture(s), a bought of c-diff, falls, gall bladder removal and so much more.
The added muscles not only strengthened his movements, but his bones, his immune system, and his spirit to continue. He was cleaning the house, doing the grocery shopping, and of course making the 75-minute drive to his workout each week followed by his religious trip to the car wash.
The man was full of life, so late in the game after a lot of damage had been done to his body. But the training helped him remain strong until the end. He was lost to a heart attack, well really two, a week apart. Another testament to how strong he was and drove himself to the hospital! So, is it ever too late to start? The answer is HECK NO!
On to question number two. Is it ever too early? NO. Healthy habits even affect babies. The food in the kitchen, the habits of the parents modeled for their kids, the kids playing outside and being active. All are ways to start a healthy lifestyle, to help your family live long healthy lives.
As an adult that may not have started out with such amazing habits modeled or have not started your health journey yet, is it too late? AGAIN, NO! At any moment you can become stronger, you can become healthier. Just as Richard did in the last years of his life. The years we will all remember as his healthiest, his strongest.
It all starts with one simple decision. TO START. It’s that simple. Just begin by making one healthier choice. Whether it be with food, going for a walk or joining your local TOA for a strength training session. Each of those decisions will lead to another and another. Just as it did with Richard.
Today I implore you to make one healthy decision. Just one simple decision leading to your better health, your stronger body.
